Do Ticket Prices Go Down Closer to the Event?

Usually yes for sports and comedy, and no for theater. We record the cheapest resale ticket for every event we list once a day, and the numbers below compare each finished event with its price about 30 days earlier. They update every day as more events finish.

How this is measured

For every event we list, we record the cheapest StubHub ticket once a day. When the event is over, we compare the price about 30 days out with the price 7 days before, the day before and on the event day. The table shows the median change, so one extreme event does not move the result. Groups with fewer than 50 events are left out.

The cheapest ticket is usually a single seat in the worst section, so this shows when getting in costs least, not what a good seat costs. Past patterns are not a promise about any one event: popular games and shows can rise right up to the start.
